Strategies for Building Relationships
Building relationships with students is critical to having a successful classroom environment. Building relationships is a two-way street – your students should get to know you, as much has you get to know them. This process will aid in creating a mutual respect for one another. Children will be less likely to act out verbally and physically if there is a highway of respect between teacher and student.
Some strategies for building relationships are:
-
Follow the Hierarchy of Interventions
-
Have open communication with students
-
Make the extra effort
-
Exert warmth / show them that you care
