Subject-Specific Pedagogical Skills for Multiple Subject Teaching Assignments

TPE 1A covers Subject-Specific Pedagogical Skills for Multiple Subject Teaching Assignments. This is where Multiple Subjects teachers (K-8th grade) are expected to successfully demonstrate their skills, knowledge and understanding of the California Common Core State Standards and their relation to the curriculum. Because this domain is specifically designed for Multiple Subjects majors, the lesson plans created should cover a myriad of grade levels and subject areas: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and History/Social Sciences. Below are four examples of the four primary content areas, all ranging in grade levels.

English Language Arts Lesson Plan:

This is an English Language Arts Lesson Plan on Phonemic Awareness, for Kindergarten. This lesson plan will include the Common Core State Standards, the 1/3 model, accommodations, both individual and collaborative practice, reflection and closure. Below are the learner outcome objectives:

  • The students will be able to separate and identify ending sounds of some words.

  • The students will be able to identify rhyming words.

  • The students will be able to sort and organize corresponding rhyming words into like categories.

  • The students will be able to work collaboratively with a partner.

 Mathematics Lesson Plan:

This is a Mathematics Lesson Plan on Money Mathematics, for 2nd Grade. This lesson plan will include the Common Core State Standards, the 1/3 model, accommodations, both individual and collaborative practice, reflection and closure. Below are the learner outcome objectives:

 

  • The child will be able to recognize and approriately use the $ and ¢ symbols.

  • The child will be able to solve word problems involving combinations of dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.

  • The child will be able to add and subtract different money amounts within 100.

Science Lesson Plan:

This is a Physical Science Lesson Plan on The Stages of Matter, for 3rd Grade. This lesson plan will include the Common Core State Standards, the 1/3 model, accommodations, both individual and collaborative practice, reflection and closure. Below are the learner outcome objectives:

  • The students will be able to list and describe the three forms of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.

  • The students will be able to explain how molecules move in different forms of matter.

  • The students will be able to explain how matter can change from a solid to a liquid, liquid to a gas, and vise-versa.

  • Students will be able to follow multi-step directions.

  • The students will be able to work collaboratively in small groups.

History/Social Science Lesson Plan:

This is a History/Social Sciences Lesson Plan on Californian Immigration, for 4th Grade. This lesson plan will include the Common Core State Standards, the 1/3 model, accommodations, both individual and collaborative practice, reflection and closure. Below are the learner outcome objectives:

  • The child will be able to work collaboratively and successfully within their small heterogeneous groups.

  • The child will be able to properly research key historical facts and details, from accredited sources, on the internet.

  • The child will be able to express their findings through a Fakebook Page Presentation.

  • The child will be able to place themselves in the life of an American immigrant who migrated to California between the years of 1850 and 1900.

  • The child will be able to explain how they came to California, their country of origin, where they settled, and any adversity that they faced.
